GCA was established in 1973 and has been actively supporting the garden center industry for over thirty years. The membership represents independent garden centers of all sizes from all areas of the country. GCA is proactive in issues and challenges that face the industry. To insure all aspects of the industry are heard, constructive dialogue from its members is encouraged.

Communications and Industry Relations
- To keep our members aware of GCA's activities, encouraging their support and participation.
- To improve the position of those in the independent garden center industry with suppliers and allied industries supporting all aspects of the garden center industry, by representing our collective interests and needs.
Education/Information and Networking
- To assist those involved in the independent garden center industry achieve their business goals by increasing their knowledge of business principles and practices.
- To increase the knowledge level of those employed in independent garden centers about all the aspects of the retail garden center industry, including a focus on merchandising, marketing, and management.
- To provide opportunities for sharing of information, ideas, experiences, and knowledge among those in the garden center industry
